Cane-back chairs breathe differently than solid-wood or upholstered backs — the woven pattern lets air move through, so long dinners feel less hot on the back. Also lighter visually — the chair reads less bulky than a solid-back side chair.

Woven cane is durable but eventually loosens with age (10-15 years typical). Cane can be replaced without replacing the chair — a common furniture restoration.
