Jonathan Louis builds each piece after you order it, which is why the same frame can look like a different sofa in two homes. Four things decide what you get.

The fabric

Hundreds of options. Never a price upgrade. Performance weaves, velvets, textured neutrals and leathers, chosen from the swatch library on our floor. Jonathan Louis dye lots can vary slightly from a swatch, so we order the real sample before a big decision.

The seat comfort

Standard, Channeled Blown Fiber, Super Plush, Pluma Plush. Standard is a firm foam core with a polyester wrap. Channeled Blown Fiber adds a fiber bag for a relaxed, feather-like sit without feathers. Super Plush uses a softer core for sink-in comfort. Pluma Plush wraps the core in a feather blend; it is the loungiest and the one that needs a fluff now and then.

The shape

Modular collections build to the room. Most collections are build-your-own: start with a chaise, cuddler or chair-and-a-half, add armless sofas, corners and wedges, and choose which end the chaise sits on (left- or right-arm facing). Our designers draw the layout to your floor plan before anything is ordered.

The build

Poplar hardwood frames, sinuous steel springs. Frames are domestic poplar, corner-blocked, glued and stapled at the stress joints, with heavy-gauge no-sag springs under the seat. Jonathan Louis makes every piece in its own factories in California and Mexico, and several collections are available FSC-certified.

A Jonathan Louis price depends on what you build: the pieces in the configuration, the seat comfort, the fabric grade and options like a sleeper mechanism or nailhead trim. Rather than print a number that will not be your number, we quote each piece as you configure it, on the floor or over the phone. Delivery is white-glove: our crew brings the piece in, sets it up in the room and takes the packaging away. Removal of old furniture or a mattress is available for a charge and has to be arranged when you schedule the delivery.

Jonathan Louis warrants the frame for 7 years, seat cushion foam, filling and springs for 3 years, and back cushions, toss pillows and fabric for 1 year, against defects in materials and workmanship, for the original purchaser. What is the difference between the seat comforts?
Jonathan Louis offers four. Standard is a high-resiliency foam core with a polyester wrap, the firmest. Channeled Blown Fiber puts that core inside a fiber-filled bag for a relaxed feel without feathers. Super Plush uses a softer core in the same bag for sink-in comfort. Pluma Plush wraps the core in a feather blend, the softest and most lounge-like; it wants an occasional fluff.
How do the modular sectionals work?
You start with an anchor piece such as a chaise, cuddler or chair-and-a-half and add connector pieces: armless sofas, corners and wedges. Chaise pieces come left- or right-arm facing so the lounge end can sit on either side of the room. A Kensington designer draws the configuration onto your floor plan before the order goes in, so the pieces fit the walls and the doorways.
How long does a Jonathan Louis order take?
Most pieces arrive about 6 to 10 weeks after the order, depending on the collection and the fabric. We give you the expected date when you order and call when the piece is in our warehouse to schedule delivery.
