How a consultation works

Call and bring the room

Phone 609-241-0807 and book a time. Bring measurements, a few photos on your phone, and anything you are keeping (a rug, a paint chip). No form, no app, no cost.

Sit, compare, choose fabrics

On the floor, a designer walks you across the brands, from in-stock Ashley to made-to-order Jonathan Louis, Bassett and Canadel, and pulls swatches against your photos. Most people leave with two or three options, not thirty.

A drawn plan and a priced list

The designer draws the layout to your measurements, checks doorways and stairs for delivery, and prices the pieces as configured. You decide at your own pace; the plan is yours either way.

Second homes and beach houses

Much of our design work is within a few miles of the ocean: Margate, Ventnor, Ocean City, Brigantine, Cape May. The questions are always the same: fabrics that take sand and sunscreen, sleepers for guests, sectionals that fit a narrow shore-house stair, and delivery to an island on a day you are not there. Our crews deliver and set up throughout South Jersey: Delivery is white-glove: our crew brings the piece in, sets it up in the room and takes the packaging away. Removal of old furniture or a mattress is available for a charge and has to be arranged when you schedule the delivery.

We deliver throughout South Jersey: Atlantic City, Ocean City, Cape May, Somers Point, Linwood, Margate, Ventnor, Galloway, Mays Landing and the Shore towns between. In-stock pieces are available for pickup or fast delivery.

Delivery is white-glove: our crew brings the piece in, sets it up in the room and takes the packaging away. Removal of old furniture or a mattress is available for a charge and has to be arranged when you schedule the delivery.

Nothing. The consultation, the drawn layout and the priced list are free and carry no obligation to buy. There is no virtual option; the value is in sitting on the frames and seeing fabrics in daylight, so consultations happen on the floor at 200 Tilton Road.

Design service questions, answered

Is the design consultation really free?
Yes. The consultation, the layout drawing and the priced plan are free and there is no obligation to buy. The designers are Kensington staff on the floor at 200 Tilton Road, not an outside service.
How do I book a design consultation?
By phone: 609-241-0807. Say which rooms you are working on and when you can come in, and we set a time with a designer. Walk-ins are welcome; booking guarantees someone is free for you.
Do you offer virtual or online design consultations?
No. Consultations happen in the store, because the useful part is sitting on the frames and holding fabric swatches in daylight. Bring photos and measurements and the designer does the rest on the floor.
What should I bring to a consultation?
Room measurements, including doorways and stairs; a few photos on your phone; and anything you are keeping, such as a rug sample or a paint chip. If you have a floor plan or a listing photo of a house you have not moved into yet, that works too.
Which furniture stores in South Jersey offer interior design services for beach homes?

Yes, on Jonathan Louis (hundreds of fabrics, no price upgrade), Bassett True Custom (400+ fabrics, 50+ leathers), Bernhardt and La-Z-Boy. The designer pulls swatches against your room photos and the piece is built to order.
Can a designer plan a whole house?
Yes. Whole-house plans are common for new second homes; the designer works room by room to one budget, schedules made-to-order pieces to arrive together, and books delivery for a single day.
How long does a custom order take?
It depends on the brand: made-to-order upholstery and dining typically take several weeks, and the designer gives you the expected date for each piece when you order. In-stock Ashley pieces can be delivered the same week.
Do you deliver and set up in Ocean City, Margate, Ventnor and Cape May?
