Which material survives the Shore

Salt air corrodes anything ferrous and eats cheap finishes within a couple of seasons. Start from the frame material, then the fabric.

Marine-grade aluminum

Rust-proof, light, powder-coated.The workhorse of Shore patios. Aluminum does not rust; a powder-coated finish keeps it from chalking. Lighter than steel, so it moves for storms and storage. Telescope Casual builds its aluminum lines in Granville, New York.

HDPE poly lumber

Near zero maintenance.Recycled high-density polyethylene shaped like painted wood. It will not rot, splinter, peel or fade, and the color runs all the way through. Seahawk Designs backs its HDPE pieces with a 20-year warranty. Heavy, which is a plus in wind.

Resin wicker on aluminum

The woven look, without the rust.Polyethylene wicker is waterproof and UV-stable. The frame underneath is what matters: aluminum is fine at the beach, steel is not. Ask what the frame is before you buy any wicker.

Cushions and fabric

Solution-dyed, quick-dry.Outdoor by Ashley uses Nuvella, a solution-dyed fabric where the color is in the fiber, so it resists fading and cleans with soap and water. Quick-dry foam matters as much as the cover: a cushion that stays wet grows mildew.

What to avoid within sight of the ocean

Powder-coated steel and wrought iron look sturdy and fail first: one chip in the coating and the salt gets in. Untreated wood other than teak weathers unevenly. Delivery and pickup

We deliver throughout South Jersey: Atlantic City, Ocean City, Cape May, Somers Point, Linwood, Margate, Ventnor, Galloway, Mays Landing and the Shore towns between. In-stock pieces are available for pickup or fast delivery.

Delivery is white-glove: our crew brings the piece in, sets it up in the room and takes the packaging away. Removal of old furniture or a mattress is available for a charge and has to be arranged when you schedule the delivery.

Warranties by brand

Seahawk Designs: 20-year warranty on every HDPE poly lumber product, per the maker. Telescope Casual: powder-coat aluminum frames and Marine Grade Polymer for the frame period marked on the product, up to 15 years residential; the powder-coat finish 3 years; cushions, slings and wood 1 year, per Telescope's published warranty. Outdoor by Ashley: Ashley's limited warranty by product type.

Patio furniture questions, answered

Is aluminum or resin wicker better for the Jersey Shore?
Both work, if the wicker's frame is aluminum. Aluminum on its own is lighter, easier to clean and cheaper to replace a piece of; resin wicker over aluminum gives the woven look and hides small scuffs. What fails at the beach is wicker over steel, so check the frame, not the weave.
What is the best patio furniture for salt air?
Marine-grade aluminum and HDPE poly lumber. Neither contains iron, so there is nothing to rust, and both take a powder coat or a through-color finish that shrugs off salt spray. Teak also lasts, at a higher price and with yearly cleaning. Steel and wrought iron should stay inland.
What are Nuvella cushions?
Nuvella is Outdoor by Ashley's solution-dyed fabric: the color is added to the fiber before it is woven, not printed on afterward, so it resists fading in sun and cleans with mild soap and water. Most of the Ashley outdoor sets on our floor use it.
Do you sell HDPE or poly lumber Adirondack chairs?
Yes. Seahawk Designs Adirondack chairs, dining and poolside pieces in HDPE are on our outdoor floor. HDPE is heavy, will not rot or peel, needs no painting and carries Seahawk's 20-year warranty.
Do you deliver patio furniture to Ocean City, Margate, Ventnor and Cape May?
Yes, and to Somers Point, Linwood, Margate, Ventnor, Galloway, Mays Landing and the rest of the Shore. In-stock pieces are available for pickup or fast delivery. Can I pick up in-stock outdoor furniture the same day?
Often, yes. In-stock sets are available for pickup at 200 Tilton Road or fast delivery; call 609-241-0807 first so we can have it pulled and check it fits your vehicle.
How should I store outdoor furniture over the winter?
Aluminum and HDPE can stay out; cover them or stack them to keep leaves and standing water off. Bring cushions inside, dry, and store them upright so air moves around them. Rinse salt off everything with fresh water before it goes into storage.
When is the best time to buy patio furniture in South Jersey?
Selection is widest in spring, when the new season's sets arrive, and prices are lowest at the end of summer, when floor models move to the Outlet. If you need a specific set for Memorial Day, order by early spring; made-to-order pieces take weeks.
Do you have a dedicated outdoor showroom?
Yes. The Outdoor Store is a department inside Kensington Furniture at 200 Tilton Road, Northfield, with dining, lounge, fire pit and poolside sets assembled so you can sit in them.
