Allow 24 inches of table edge per person.A 60-inch rectangle seats six comfortably; 72 inches seats six with elbow room or eight snugly; 84 to 96 inches seats eight to ten. A 48-inch round seats four, a 60-inch round six. Leaves add 12 to 24 inches each.

36 inches to pull a chair out; 42 to walk behind it.Measure the room, subtract 36 inches on every side you sit on, and what is left is the largest table that works. A bench on one side saves about 10 inches of floor because it tucks under.

Standard, counter or bar height

30, 36 and 42 inches.Standard height is the most comfortable for long meals and works with any chair. Counter height suits an open kitchen and a casual room; bar height is for a small footprint or a real bar. Chairs and stools must match the table height, so buy them together.

Delivery and pickup

We deliver throughout South Jersey: Atlantic City, Ocean City, Cape May, Somers Point, Linwood, Margate, Ventnor, Galloway, Mays Landing and the Shore towns between. In-stock pieces are available for pickup or fast delivery.

Delivery is white-glove: our crew brings the piece in, sets it up in the room and takes the packaging away. Removal of old furniture or a mattress is available for a charge and has to be arranged when you schedule the delivery.

Warranty by brand

Ashley dining carries Ashley's limited warranty by product type. Bassett wood furniture is covered by Bassett's wood warranty on bassettfurniture.com. Canadel warrants materials and workmanship for two years from delivery to the retailer. Claims run through us as the dealer.

Dining room questions, answered

How big a dining table do I need for six people?
About 60 inches long for a rectangle, or a 60-inch round. Allow 24 inches of table edge per person and 36 inches of clear floor around the table to pull chairs out. A 72-inch table gives six people elbow room and seats eight when needed.
What is the difference between counter height and bar height?
Counter height is 36 inches, the height of a kitchen counter, and takes 24-inch stools. Bar height is 42 inches and takes 30-inch stools. A standard dining table is 30 inches with 18-inch chairs. The table and its seating must match, so buy them as a pair.
Are dining sets in stock?
Most Ashley sets are in our own warehouse and marked in stock, available for pickup or fast delivery. Bassett BenchMade and Canadel tables are built to order in your size and finish; we give you the expected date when you order.
Can I get a dining table built to a custom size?
Yes. Canadel's UDesign program and Bassett's BenchMade program build tables in your shape, length, wood, finish and edge, with matching chairs, benches and islands. You design it with a consultant on our floor and it is made to order.
Where can I buy Canadel furniture in New Jersey?
At Kensington Furniture in Northfield, an authorized Canadel dealer with a Canadel design center in the store. Canadel pieces are built to order, so you design the table here rather than buy one off the floor.
Do you sell dining chairs separately?
Yes. Side chairs, arm chairs, counter chairs, bar stools and benches are sold individually as well as in sets, in the dining chairs and bar stools collections.
Do you deliver dining furniture to Ocean City, Cape May and the Shore towns?
Yes, and to Somers Point, Linwood, Margate, Ventnor, Galloway, Mays Landing and the rest of the Shore. In-stock pieces are available for pickup or fast delivery. On one long side, yes, and it saves about 10 inches of floor because it tucks under the table. Benches seat one more person than the chairs they replace but are less comfortable for long meals; most people pair a bench with chairs on the other side and the ends.
