A mattress protector should disappear once it is on the bed, and most waterproof ones do not: they crinkle, trap heat and feel like plastic. Avocado keeps the waterproof layer to a minimum, a thin barrier derived from corn starch at about five percent of the protector by weight, and surrounds it with GOTS-certified organic cotton on both sides and on the fitted skirt. The cotton breathes and wicks; the barrier catches the spill.
It comes in a standard pocket for mattresses up to about 15 inches and a deep pocket for the taller Avocado models, up to about 22 inches. Wash it before first use, because the organic cotton shrinks to fit, then machine wash with a mild detergent and tumble dry low. GOTS, MADE SAFE and GREENGUARD Gold certified.
It is the protector we recommend under every Avocado mattress we sell, and it keeps the warranty conversation simple if anything is ever spilled.
Standard fits mattresses up to about 15 inches: the Green Firm and Medium, the Extra Firm, the Eco Organic and the Eco Kids. Deep pocket fits the taller models: the Green Plush and Ultra Plush and all three Luxury Organic feels. If you are using a topper, go deep.
The barrier is designed to catch everyday spills and accidents, and Avocado deliberately keeps it thin so the protector stays breathable. It is not a plastic encasement, and Avocado does not market it as one.
Very little. The two cotton layers are thin and soft, and there is no quilting or padding, so the mattress feel comes through.
Wash before first use so the organic cotton shrinks to fit, then machine wash with a mild detergent, no bleach, and tumble dry low or line dry. It may take a couple of washes to reach its final fit.
Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King and California King, in both pocket depths.
Yes. Avocado's pillows, protectors, sheets and toppers carry GOTS certification for the finished product, and most are also certified to MADE SAFE and GREENGUARD Gold standards — the same programs that cover the mattresses.
Follow the care label on the item: Avocado's organic cotton sheets, pillowcases and protectors machine wash in cold or warm water with a mild detergent and no bleach, and most prefer a low tumble or line dry. Pillows and toppers are spot-clean only.
Pillows, protectors, sheets and toppers are personal-use items, so the return terms differ from mattresses. Ask our team before you buy and we will walk you through them.
