Kensington's Hot Seat: Eagles Fans Sound Off in Lot K

For our first Hot Seat episode, we set up a recliner in Lot K at Lincoln Financial Field before the Eagles took on the Los Angeles Rams in week four, and asked tailgating fans to sit down and tell us what's really going on with the team.

What is the Kensington Hot Seat?

It's a simple idea: put a fan in a recliner, ask them who they think is on the hot seat for the Eagles this season, and let the conversation go where it goes. This was episode one, filmed in the parking lot before kickoff, with the team coming off a loss the week before and dealing with some injuries.

Who we talked to

Three fans joined us for this episode: Dan, Jasper, and RJ. The mood in Lot K was mixed. One fan called the season so far "a little underwhelming," pointing out that the team started hot but has been "riddled with a lot of injuries," including DeVonta Smith's hamstring. Others were more upbeat, especially about Zach Ertz being back and the team playing at home.

Who's on the hot seat

When we asked who fans would put in the actual hot seat, the answer came back fast. "I mean, you have to look at the leader, Nick Sirianni," one fan said. Another wasn't ready to let go of last year's frustrations with the coaching staff: "I still blame Kevin Patullo. Bring him back and fire him again." There was also talk about backup quarterback Sean Mannion and the new offensive coordinator, with fans admitting it's hard to predict how either will perform this early in the season.

Reading the room after a loss

A few fans brought up how different this tailgate felt compared to a game a couple of years back, when a first-game loss left them "pissed off" in their seats. This time, even after a rough week, the group in front of our recliner was mostly optimistic. One fan summed up the Eagles fan approach to a bad week: "You got to just flush it just like Jalen Hurts. You don't look at it." The group laughed about the level of petty blame that comes with being a Philly sports fan and agreed it's part of what makes the city's fandom what it is.

Why we're doing this

Kensington Furniture has been part of the South Jersey and Shore community for a long time, and the Hot Seat series is our way of showing up where our neighbors already are, tailgating, talking football, and having a little fun before kickoff. It's less about furniture and more about being part of the conversation. We plan to keep the recliner coming back to Lot K for future episodes as the season goes on.
